Active Ageing for Falls Prevention

About the project

Active Ageing for Falls Prevention aligns closely with the Erasmus+ Sport priorities. It addresses key areas such as social inclusion, equal opportunities, and increased participation in physical activity. The project specifically promotes a regular exercise programme designed to help prevent falls among older adults. This movement programme focuses on improving balance, strength, and coordination. These are essential factors in reducing the risk of falls as people age. By providing structured and accessible physical activity opportunities, the project aims to help older adults maintain their mobility, independence, and quality of life.

This initiative not only aims to prevent falls through structured physical activity but also focuses on improving the skills of trainers and volunteers involved in these programmes. By doing so, it helps build a sustainable and skilled support network. The project also encourages collaboration between sports organisations, healthcare facilities, and community centres. This multi-sectoral approach will strengthen community outreach and benefit a wider range of people. Ultimately, supporting both the health and social integration of elderly participants.

Physical activity helps improve and preserve muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance, which are crucial factors in reducing the risk of falls. Regular exercise is essential for good physical fitness, particularly among older adults.
  • MOJCA MARKOVIČ Sports Union of Slovenia Slovenia
Falls among older adults can lead to serious negative consequences, including fractures, loss of mobility, decreased independence, and a higher risk of long-term disability. They can also result in emotional impacts, such as the fear of falling, which may lead to social isolation and a reduced quality of life.
